G2 vs Encore
« on: July 19, 2007, 04:16:33 PM »
I have just started looking at the two and know only a bit.  I undrestandt he G2 is lighter and supposedly has a better trigger.  The Encore handles hotter rounds.  I would like to hunt deer or hogs using a 44 mag or 45colt/454 Casull.  Not sure if I want to go as high as a 460 S&W.  Recommendations for G2 or Encore frame wanted.  I do reload

The Encore can handle most anything you will need while the G2 is made for low pressure calibers.

I wouldn't ever do that if I were you.  Think about it for a minute.

There is a Major legal dif between a Carbine and a Short Barrel Rifle... And Incriminating yourself on a public forum May not be to smart.... Even if the laws are retarded. ~Ace~

I do that just to sight my pistol barrels in but I take the tools with me to change the barrel or stock before I transport them. Cops don't have any sense of humor when it comes to what looks to them like a sawed off weapon. Be careful.

It's 16.6 inches with the permanently attached muzzle brake. I was just stating that is used to be a 15inch pistol barrel until I had my gunsmith make a permanently attached Muzzle brake (welded) which put it over the legal limit and it can be used as a rifle or pistol.

My statement is corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.

A barrel 16" or over can be used as a rifle OR a pistol.

And if the barrel has a permanently-attached brake to put it over the legal limit, then it's fine, too -- as long as used accordingly.

As to frames, I won't even get into that discussion as it wastes space and really goes nowhere (it's been rehashed many times).

I forgot to mention the permanently attached break. Thanks.

The G2 and Encore have virtually the same trigger/sear technology.  The old easy opens are a different breed altogether.

Easy Open is a nickname for the improved original style contender, not the G2.  Their serial numbers begin at 195000, and go from there until their discontinuation in favor of the g2.  The Easy Opens have slight modifications that, of course, make them easier to open, and a little more stout, compared to the original contenders.  They can be identified in pictures by the knob on top of the hammer, rather than the push bar safety through the hammer.  Regardless, only mid pressure cartridges like the 30 30, 45/70, etc and lower are appropriate.  The Encore, on the other hand, is very stout, and can handle very powerful magnum cartridges.

I'd go with a 15" 460 Encore, then you can shoot 454 Casulls and 45 Colts too...............
