Brass sticking after shot
« on: July 23, 2007, 04:03:57 AM »
With the H&R rifle, when out shooting the 25-06 the brass is sticking after the shot is fired. If I remove it within about 5 seconds after shot, it will eject. Longer than about 5 seconds it sticks and I have to push it out from the end of barrel. Have tried several loads. Different brands. Can someone tell me if anything can be done to help with this. Other cal also, buy the 25-06 is the worst. I do not have this problem with the TC's.

Could be a number of things causing it...from your loads being too hot..to your brass being undersized..too the ejector spring being too weak...to the chamber needing to be polished...We have a ton of information in the FAQ's to assist you in correcting this...http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,26264.0.html..go thru it and see if any thing there  will help...

If you are reloading for the 25-06 there is not much point of the ejector. An extractor is more positive.
Like was said earlier polishing the chamber might help.

Polishing the chamber is just one step in making the ejector barrels trouble free, tuning the ejector as mentioned in the FAQs is also a big help, I have yet to stick a case in mine, so I know it can be achieved with a little preventative care. The ejector barrel is by far and away more popular with those who are Handi savvy!! :D

Quickdtoo,
My dislike of the ejector comes from the clanking noise, the drag marks it puts on the breech face, it tossing my brass, lack of cam force for ejection but mostly when loading a lead bullet that seats into the rifling you can't feel the bullet seating force as well as with the plain extractor.

Convert it to an extractor then, it can be done permanently or temporarily, see the FAQs. I converted my 45-120 and 405 Winchester to extractors, very easy to do. ;)

If you decide you don't like it still, I'd bet you can easily sell it or trade it for an extractor barrel, but I'd be sure to get a gen 2 extractor, the gen 1 has a reputation for failure and are the reason why there's a gen 2!! :'(

Personally, I prefer the extractor, I have 6 of em, 2 of the gen 1s, but I have 28 ejector barrels, the only thing I dislike about either is when shooting multiple rifles on a range day, forgetting which I have on the bench and having brass fly over my shoulder when just getting used to the extractor from previous gun, very embarrassing!! :-[
