Due to a severe case of "I love you" I seem to be moving to Alabama....

Seems that a little southern bell has captured me. The attacks were relentless but quite subtle for three years. I finally caved in and find myself moving to the Montgomery area or at least within commuting distance.  I find it odd that for the most part ya all don't have basements so I am at a loss of where do ya all have the safes and reloading area's, and how do ya secure em? I am concerned. Starting over is one thing but I believe down in Alabama I will be able to use all the toys I have acquired for proper uses. 

So any how this middle aged soon ta be first time newlywed kin use some advice from other sportsman in the area.

Is  there such a thing as "secure storage" rentals?
It is about the only real concern I have - well other than venomous snakes 

The rest of the move is easy to me. I like most of the values and the folk are decent.

well first, Welcome to Alabama...
Currently live in the North part of AL, near the TN line, with the small hills...   but was born and raised in Montgomery.  Was a nice town, not so sure now.  My dad still lives there and gives me reports.  Living outside the city is probably better.  I got several friends that live north of Montgomery  a short distance (15-25 milies).  Still a nice part of AL.  On the basement, might be good to get one installed, just in case tornados come by.  Plus, it can be used for gun storage and reloading.  That's what I did.

Maybe the area you're looking doesn't have basements, but I have always had a basement. Some of the flatland might not be appropriate to have a basement. A good gun safe might be in order in case you don't find a secure storage rental. Welcome to Alabama, I think you will enjoy the weather here as most everyone that moves here likes the weather and the food. The only thing that might get you in trouble is if you tell one of the locals 'that's how we did it where I'm from".That expression  will turn them off in a hurry. 

If you're a hunter, get a pair of snake chaps (the ones that come to the knee) the tall ones are too hot to wear, or snake boots whichever you prefer.

thanks guys... I don't know about your weather :p 103 degrees for several weeks at a time is a bit hot for me As far as a safe goes... I am needin number three and then some being single for so long had a few advantages I am hopin I will get to keep a few of those privileges and am lookin forward to teachin my boy some serious shootin ,huntin n fishin.  He is four and likely will have more than some adults do by the time he is a teen... we'll see

The water table is too high to have a basement, unless you live on a hill......

I'm about 82 miles south of Montgomery, in Eufaula, where you'll no doubt have to come to go fishing.
 I have taken over a spare bedroom and made it my reloading / computer / bullet casting/ fishing gear  room. I have a huge old entertainment center that I use to store my  loaded ammunition and another cabinet where my dies and components reside. My wife seldom comes in here. She's afraid that the feds will come a- knocking one day.....

thanks guys... I figure it'll work  out and with generous help/offers from fine folk I should make it just fine. I try to do the same up here and have for a long while and figured between good folk n God I will be fine. I do have A LOT to learn about the state though. I am so lookin foward to huntin Hogs though we don't have many here in ohio.
