Limbsaver Recoil Pad for Youth Handi
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:42:45 AM »
Does anyone know where I could purchase a limbsaver pad for my sons wood stock handi?  I already downloaded all the templates from limbsaver website and none of the sizes fit.  I understand I will have to get a grind-to-fit pad but I don't have confidence in doing a good job myself.  Just wondering if someone has any pre-made.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to GBO!! The 10003 and 10601 prefits fit close enough to use on some stocks, but your best bet other than the Limbsaver slip-on is to use the small grind-to-fit. You can sand/grind the mounting plate to the same contour as the stock profile, then taper the sides some leaving the pad full for a bigger footprint, that can be done on a grinder or with a dremel.

If you aren't confident then go with the Limbsaver slipon.  It works great.

I finally took the plunge on grinding a recoil pad (I also changed my own brakes for the first time this year, was always unnerved by that).  Anyway, the first one looked "okay"....maybe that is polite.  It didn't turn out as well as I thought that it would.  The second one was much better.  If it is on a youth stock then I would say give it a try, you will probably replace the stock anyway right?

The good advice that I got from Gunnut on the Gunsmithing forum was to freeze the pad for 24 hours before starting to shape it, to use plenty of WD40 to lube the pad while shaping, and to be prepared to install and remove multiple times.

At Wal-Mart, we just put the Pachmayr slip on pad on clearance to $5, I THINK that it fits.  Quick would know better.  Might be worth a look.  Otherwise, we sell the Limbsaver there too for $20.

I'not familiar with the pachmayrs, but the small is the one to use.
