Lookin' for suggestions for my kids' hunts.
« on: December 01, 2003, 06:12:19 PM »
:D Here's the scoop folks.  I'm deploying to the Middle-East again 8)  next month and will be back by June...when we move from Alaska to...well, who knows where.  The kids want to hunt when I return.

I always (third time over to the sandbox) try to give myself, and my 10-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl (add another birthday to each while Im gone :( ), something to look forward to.  My daughter would like to hunt some sort of exotic sheep and my son has his heart set on a wild boar.  I imagine that when we move from Alaska we'll take time to visit my grandmother in MS and my wife's family in FL and may hunt there.  Anyone have any good experiences in that neck of the wood :? s?

Thanks.

you take care over there man, keep your head down.  If you travel to Texas, I could recommend looking at Cougar Run Ranch.  They do have both sheep and hogs, and do some parent/child specials and camping and stuff to make the hunt memorable.  THey have a web site, and it should be easy to locate with a web search.  Good luck.

There is at least one exotic hunting operation in MS. Not sure the name or where located. A fellow I used to know but have lost track of killed a really monster red stag there. Might be more than one.

TN has several places. Most offer hogs. Some exotics. Can't speak to the quality of hunts there except for hogs at Tellico Junction. That was fun and interesting.

In northern FL you might want to take a look at Carter's Pasture. They are west of Jacksonville as I recall about the center of state east to west and way up in the northern part. Over 1100 acres of the thickest jungle and swamp you'll ever wanna see. Nice lodge. He has hogs all over the place from tiny babies just born to monster trophy boars. He has some exotic species such as axis, fallow, sika, red deer. Not sure what all else. He told me when I was there in '97 that he had turned loose a bunch of auodad a couple years earlier and none had been seen since. Heck they may still be hiding out in those swamps. You'll like this one.
