Hi I am looking into getting a new barrel for my Hawkens I found a 45 cal  with a 1/18 twist barrel what would be the optimum bullet and load for this barrel? And sense it is a 45 I cant use it for elk in colorado can I ........? ::) What about the other states ? TIA Nim

You got yourself a muzzle-loading version of the Great 45.70 Black Powder Cartridge Rifle(BPCR) 8)

That baby will only shoot Long Heavy conical bullets in the 400-600 grain range, with 70 grains of the powder of your choice! 8)

You may be able to shoot some 40cal sabot rounds, but I doubt it will out shine the 45.70 loads above.:-\

That baby is the Buffalo killer from way back :) ;)
