G3
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:51:28 AM »
Anyone have experiance with the new G3. Thought about one for Skeet/Sporting clay's/ Dove hunting. Would really like the STS comp. OU but the $$$ scares me. Went back and forth between the G3, Comp.1100, and 1100 sporting. Didn't really want a 30'' barrell so that put the Comp. 1100 out. Between the G3 and 11000sporting I like the Pro bore chokes, backbore, teflon coatings. Don't really know why I like the Pro Bore tubes other than what I've read.

Sombody stop me before I order one, DM

I HAD one. Note the past tense in that statement?

It's a good looking gun and feels OK but sadly it's really NOT an 1100 or 11-87 in the truest sense as it just lacks the "feel" of them. I played around with mine a bit and let several guys at the range use it who regularly shoot 1100s or 11-87s. No one shot it as well as their 1100s and 11-87s to include me.

After giving it a fair chance I decided it really wasn't for me and traded it off on something else just as I do most of the guns I get. I give them a fair trial and if they don't prove out for me I let them go and get something else to try.

I shot my first ever 100 straight at skeet with a Remington 1100 and used them in competition in all four skeet gauges for many years before moving to O/Us exclusively for skeet. I continued to use 1100s and then later the 11-87 after it came out for hunting and some clays shooting tho. Nothing really fits me any better or feels any better in my hands for wingshooting than the original 1100s and 11-87s do. The G3 is a beautiful gun and for some might be exactly what they are looking for but it lacks the same fit and feel the older guns have and if that's what you're looking for then the G3 is not it.

I find the Browning Citori White Lightning to give me the best fit of any of the O/Us I've tried. The dimensions more closely match those of the orignal 1100 than any others I can find and I shoot them about as well as I do any gun these days.
