New Model 11 doesn't eject
« on: September 04, 2006, 02:50:03 PM »
So...I've been doing load development all summer. Never needed to eject a shell and load another from the magazine. Well, shooting at a running deer target I wanted to send another shot down range so I filled the magazine. First cartridge does not eject completely but the bolt picks up a fresh round = jam.

It's a .223 Rem. Now what? Is it an adjustment issue? Do have to call Savage?

Thanks for advice,
Harold

Harold, how much exertion were you applying when opened the bolt? When I shoot from the bench I gently open the bolt to keep the brass from flying out and onto the gravel but when hunting I normally give the bolt a good tug if I need a second shot. Another thing to try is some different brass or factory ammo to see if the problem is the brass or the rifle. I once solved an ejection problem just by using the same load but from a different lot.
Safe shooting.

I've had mine eject a shell before the bolt moved all the way to rear & stopped before it could pick up round from magizine. That was when I was shooting from bench. That was my fault in not letting bolt travel the full distance. Short stroaking to catch the brass. Could be your problem?

I had the same problem with my 22-250. I had to replace 3 ejector springs, fairly easy. I problem was too much pressure.
I was trying to lighten the velocity and did not know too little powder will cause to much pressure.
