SKS DEAL
« on: July 28, 2007, 03:16:09 AM »
Recently obtained a Chinese sks/500 surplus hollow point rounds/40 rounds of winchester soft points/scope/ receiver mount/ two spare 40 round magazines for $100.  The rifle was hardly shot/ 1 owner but was cleaned very good.  Is it a good deal?  I took it out and it shoots great.

The extra ammo was worth that! You stole it!  The other guy must have been on crack to sell all that for $100.  The mags are worthless in my opinion though, never could get any of them to work.  Great Purchase!

There were some SKS type rifles that actually had removable magazines. The mags were very similar to AK mags but were not interchangeable as far as I can remember. the barrel was slightly longer and there was a small gas adjustment at the end of the gas tube. If it is one of these, you have a rare animal indeed. I have only ever encountered a couple of them. These were known as the Type 68 in their full auto guise.
Some were modified to be semi -Auto and sneaked their way into this country in the late 70's or early 80's. A fine file would make them fully automatic quite easily and when this was discovered, they were banned from importation. Very few are in this country..

The "D" & "M" model SKS's take AK Mags. Tho not Common, there are still some to be had :)

The "Type 68" although looking like a SKS is not,  but rather a AK / SKS Hybrid that just never worked well. The SKS bolt and gas system are not designed for, nor would work well for a Select Fire weapon.

For $100 you Stole it, if the mags are Duck Bill Junk, sell them and make part of your investment back. ~Ace~

Thanks for the replies I was just wondering if I got a good deal.  The guy selling it just wanted to get rid of it.  Never shot it.  Too busy.

Congratulations, you made an excellent buy!

S.S.  The mags are interchangeable, I own several SKSs and AKs, and with the exception of one SKS with a fixed five round mag the others interchange with all the guns.
