Data on sd card But gps will not read it
« on: July 28, 2007, 10:36:03 AM »
Installed streets and roads and also blue chart on a new sd card  the Garmin gps map76csx will not read any of the data on the card
If you check card in GPS it shows that data is on card but it does not show on  select maps page but it does show data on card
used another unlock code for bluechart  and looks like it went on card ok.
any ideas?

I am unaware of any Garmin MapSource product titled “Streets and Roads.”  Are you referring to City Navigator or Metro Guide North America?  Microsoft has a product called Streets&Trips.  The maps from the Microsoft product are not recognized by your Garmin gps.

If you want to use a mapping product in a Garmin gps, with few exceptions in must be a Garmin MapSource product.  I assume that you loaded another manufactures products on a micro SD card, but your gps unit will not recognize it.  The bargain "other guys product" may not be a bargain in the long run.  I have a couple mapping products from other manufactures that will transfer waypoints, and tracks, but will not transfer maps.

A while back I posted how to load Garmin MapSource products on a Garmin gps unit.  Just change the name to you Garmin MapSource product and you should be okay.  I am sure there are a few hacks around for loading other products, but that is beyond me.

If Streets and Roads is not a Garmin MapSource product it maybe creating a conflict.  If both products are Garmins I suggest you call Garmin Support.  There is a toll free number on their webpage.  It may take twenty minutes before you get to talk to a customer service person.  But once you have them they are helpful.

Sorry it is Mapsource  metroguide
I figured out  my garmin will not load maps if you select a big area by highliting the area. If you select the area (all of them ) then it was readable on card.
The manual states you can select all areas and load then. It did but the GPs was unable to read the maps
problem solved but did not work as stated in manual. Wasted a lot of time and patience trying to do this. But if I selected the area it worked.
strange thing it showed on card but Garmin would not read it.
Tried to load thur GPS and also card reader both would not read in gps loaded this way. but worked by selecting each area.

I am not a computer expert, but one thing I have learned is expect the unexpected.  I have loaded the same program on a number of computers and they will give the software a different look on each computer.  The lack of consistency maybe me, and not the software.  Or is the programs that I have running in the background that cause the different look.  Maybe it is the senior brain cells or the loss of cells.
