Speer 105 grain spitzers.

I pickeded up a box of Speer 105 grain hot-cor spitzer bullets. While I plan to use my .257 Roberts as my primary deer rifle, I plan to keep my .243 as a back up, now , the question is, anyone have any experance loading this bullet with IMR 4350 (which I have on hand already).  Normally I use 100 grain bullets in this rifle but I use them all up just having fun and I can't see any reason not to use these 105 grain bullets if I can get some load data for them.

Speer #14 has plenty of data for this bullet - it is the same as their data for their 100-grain bullets.  Why?  Because Speer redesigned their 100-grain bullets to reduce friction and match the data for the 105s.  Speer re-shot all their .243 data for this manual.

The 105 grain Speers are one of my favorite bullets for my 243s.  I currently use a load of 31.0 gr of IMR's 4064 in my BLR and it gives very good accuracy.  This is not a hot load at all but rather a mild load that I use for fall turkey hunting.  My theory is that a heavy bullet traveling at a modest velocity will not expand much at all, giving me FMJ bullet-like performance in a state that does not allow the use of FMJ bullets .  I also get very good accuracy using 37.0 gr of Reloader 19 behind the same bullet.  The long length of this bullet allows one to load it closes to the lands than lighter, shorter bullets, which I have found beneficial in my loadings.

I haven't tried IMR's 4350 behind it yet, but I bet it will work very well too, as 4350 is an excellent powder choice for many 243 bullet weights.  I have had excellent results with it and 87 grain bullets.

I have found IMR 4350 to be a excellent choice anytime you have a long length to dia  type bullet, ie, 180 grain in the 30/06 down to the 100/105 grain bullets in the .243.  Usually excellent accuracy, in the top three for velocity listings at the some of the lowest (relatively) pressures. at least that has been my experiance. But if I could I would try them all, but I don't make enought money for that!
