Broken Nipple Question.
« on: December 15, 2007, 05:23:57 PM »
Well I let a buddy of mine take out my side lock rifle today to hunt. It was his first time hunting with ML and he loved it. Unfortunately he didn't see anything to shoot. At the end of the day, he went to unload it, however it missfired. Upon further examination the nipple broke (the post broke off of the base.)

The rifle is a Traditions Woodsman. Of the 13 years I have had it, I have never had a missfire, none the less a broken nipple? I guess my question is, can a nipple become fatigued to the point of fracturing?

Interesting none the less.

yes they can . they wear just like anything else  and should be inspected and replace when needed .
there are many different nipples out there  made from a lot of different stuff  ranging from stainless steel to casts steal . As such , some are better then others and last longer  but over time they all will wear  and need replacing
