Scope mount "dummy" screws
« on: September 29, 2007, 05:38:37 AM »

Does anyone know the size and thread count on the scope mount dummy screws for a 336, circa 1981?

I bought a used 336 in .35 Rem a couple of years ago, and want to ditch the scope in favor of  an aperture sight.  Unfortunately, the original owner did not keep the dummy screws.  Making this my knock around/truck/loaner rifle, as it has good power, and is the most  "cosmetically challenged" of all the rifles I own.  Figured a scope isn't necessary, is more bulky, and more fragile than irons.

I'd call Marlin, but, its Saturday, and I have been single dad with the four kids all week, so I didn't have much time to call during the week.

Thanks for all replies.

Regards,
 Mike

I've NEVER YET seen a smart screw.  ;D They are ALL brainless like dumocraps.  :o

BUT filler screws are generally always 6-48 and the only other size you'd likely ever run into and is rare would be 8-40.

GB,

Thanks for the information.  I used the term "dummy screw" because that's what Marlin calls them in their literature.  They just don't give the specs for them.

Mike

Not many Marlin 336 filler screws are 6-48, like just about every other rifle made - In fact, I've never seen any that weren't 8-40 or 10-32.

I guess Marlin likes things stout.

39s have 6x40, 336s have 8x40 but, the dummy receiver sight screws (on the left side near top) on a 336 look to be 6x40?
