Water trap prep

has anybody tried spray pant for water traps and can or should you wax over them to get protect them from elements.  Seems things have changed in the twenty years since I trapped last

 First--welcome to our forum.
 Yesyou can spray paint your traps,I have done a few in a pinch.You will find if you have more than a few,it will become quite expensive.I use speed dip on my traps, it is a lot quicker.
 If you paint,or if you dip--do not wax over either one.You will end up with a mess, and it isn't needed.

I sprayed some 120 bodygrips  18 years ago with Rustoleum  brown primer and they are good  today yet.  Now  it was an oil based paint.   You can use water base.  Sometimes  you will have to thin paint  so  you get thinner layer.  You can wax over as it does make trap faster but is not needed.   I buy paint in oil or water base  in colors i can mix to colors i want that are on sale.  Of course keep oil and water base paints seperate.   If your paint is thouroughly dry   when you wax , there is no problems....  RdFx

Thanks guys....My first attempt with speed dip went poor I even used colman fuel.  maybe I got a bad batch.  By the way what a resource this Forum is thank you.  I've been reading for about two months.  Anybody that takes the time that you do Bog to help people in this forum loves the sport and deserves my money I will come see you in Bemidji for my supplies.  I

I have always painted my body traps people talk of avoidance, maybe, but if you think about it
they tell you to boil your traps in logwood or sumac,walnut hulls, or whatever as it makes em odorless, yeah right, while
your boiling it cant you smell the dye? I can..others say it adds a color that conceals there trap they then cover the trap with a half inch of dirt
...now that said for some unknown reason i mostly do my traps in dye(land) i think it does afford some rust protection and lol i guess im superstitious .  I better not get started on this.... I say overall read all that you can..but then think for yourself, learn on the line and have fun
now and then too.
