Rossi (Puma) .454

I read a test report in Boar Hunter, and it was very favorable.  Do any of you have one, and do you like it?  Is it possible to improve the sights?

I have the Puma in 454, but didn't like the sights. My eyes didn't pick them up well. I will be 50 next year and they ain't what they used to be.

I replaced them with Marble's tang mounted peep sight and gold front bead. (http://www.marblesoutdoors.com/)

I am VERY pleased with the new setup.

I shoot primarily .45 Colt in the rifle and find it does best with heavier solid cast bullets (300+ grains) and slower powders like H110. My 1150 fps revolver loads break 1400 fps in the rifle. Easier on the shoulder than the "magnum" loads and more than adequate for most North American game in the lower 48. I don't live in Grizzly country, so that is not an issue for me.

Swampman,

I put a rear peep on both my Pumas.  I have a .357 and .454.  I am too old to see barrel mounted sights.  Both mine worked without changing the front bead.  I think both of them had to be drilled an tapped but the newer ones may come like that.  Both are very accurate at 100 yds.  I bought the Williams from Midway for the 92.  It was about $40.  They have a more expensive version for about $20 more but these are fine on these rifles.  Look 'em up!

Good Luck,
