Modifying a Survivor
« on: August 01, 2007, 07:58:21 PM »
I'm looking to buy a takedown rifle that I can carry in my backpack.  I've owned a Springfield M6 (.22 Hornet/410) and a Henry AR7 (.22LR) and I'd rather have something with a little more muscle.  I bought a NEF .22 rimfire for my daughter, and I'm amazed at the quality.  I like the looks of the Survivor, and generally it fits the bill.  I'm limited to about 16" length to fit the pack.

Here are the questions:

How long is the stock/receiver when the rifle is broken down?

What would happen to accuracy if I cut the barrel to 16"?  Same question for the 45 Colt, the .223 and the .308 if the answers are different.

If you cut the barrel to about 18.5 inches and use a youth stock the receiver and barrel will be about the same length.  One of the ATI adjustable stocks may be shorter, if you are going to trim down a stock use a wood one, you can also trim off some wood from the sides to make it a little thinner and lighter.  Mine fits in this:

A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.
