looking for help with
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:21:55 PM »
looking for help with finding a lock schematic for a tc renegade. i recently acquired this gun from a friend who is dying from cancer. i am totally unfamiliar with it but i did break it down and it seems like there maybe a missing spring or a stuck plunger that maybe is supposed to assist the sear in engaging the hammer. any and all info would be appreciated.

Have you checked the TC website?

If you can find a schematic for any similar hawken type rifle, it should be close enough to help you. I searched real quick with Google and at Numrich gun parts with no luck.

The locks are really very basic, if you can explain exactly what is happening with your lock, we might be able to give you some fixes. A picture would help too.

good Luck!

Here's a generic lock schematic, it looks similar to me from my memory, but someone that still has one can confirm or deny that for sure. Right click it and save it to your PC, then open the file, you'll be able to read it then. Numrich has a list of parts for the Renegade.

what your probably missing is the small spring and  bearing  pin . this would be # 28 and 29 on quickdtoo  drawing .
the only other spring is the main coil spring  that TC uses and is also shown on the drawing .
now you may have one of the TC locks with a leaf sear spring .

i would call TC and have them send you a new sear spring set for your rifle OR just send the lock to TC and have them go over it

Sorry to hear about your friend I hope he is able to enjoy the time left to him.

Send it to TC to have them go over it they have excellent customer service and should take care of it with no problems.

thanks for the schematic. it is items 28 & 29. the hammer will not lock back unless the gun is held horizontal.
i think i have the parts but they are jammed as there is no hole where the bearing pin is. i will try to free what ever is there.
as far as my friend, bill is concerned, he is still working and he always seems to light up when i speak of hunting or shooting. he is a true gentleman and a gentle man also. i am better for having met him.

I just wanted to say thank you all for your responses. i was able to drill a 3/64" hole in the top of the housing and drive the bearing pin out. it was rusted solid. i took some 800 grit sandpaper and cleaned the pin and the housing and  lubed everything. it works like new.
so folks, to one and all i say thank you; your support is appreciated
