I took my taurus 17 hmr revolver groundhog hunting a few times this year, I had my 223 along with the bipods up high so i could shoot sitting, A groundhog came out at 60 yards and i got the idea to turn the rifle from pointing away from me to pointing to the left of me with the bipods on one side of my legs and the recoil pad on the other side of my legs, i rested the barrel of my taurus between the end of the scope and the barrel and it made the perfect rock solid rest, way better than the mono pod i used before, I made a perfect shot on the hog and now i leave my mono pod at home and just use the gun as my handgun rest, This probally wouldnt be a good idea with any caliber with recoil, but its working great for me and just thought i would share.
