Newbie: Projectile/Powder Advice

Just got my new encore 209X50 barrel.  Anyone care to share their favorite projectiles/sabots, powders & charges?  I'll be hunting northern MN & western WI whitetails at typical distances of 30-80 yds.  Thanks in advance.

 Hornady 250 gr. SST on top of 130 gr's of Pyrodex, with a Remington clean bore primer to set it off.
 This is all I shoot in my Encore, this load will kill deer at 200+ yd's.

I am not into buying expensive bullets so for whitetail out to 150 yards I shoot a a regular Spreer Gold Dot - .452 - 250 grain bonded HP.  I use 100 grains of T7-2f in the Omega and 110 grains in the White and Remingtons...  Put the Gold Dot in an MMP HPH-24 sabot or if that is to tight to go down your barrel sub in a MMP HPH-3p-EZ load sabot.  I shoot Remington 209-4 primers but they are no longer available.  I was able to buy a big batch of Winchester Triple 7 primers from Wal-Mart for $2 a box, they work real well also.  Another alternative is regular Winchester 209's.  If you really want a really reliable and clean ignition system, get a 25 ACP system from PR Bullets... This system really keeps things clean.

I have a T/C Khatadin with short barrel. I've been using American Pioneer Powder - I'm finding it creates less crud than 777. I've had good results with the 'more affordable' T/C maxi hunter and 'less affordable' Precision Rifle QT's using 100 & 110 grains of powder.

T/C bullet... take your pick (Shockwave 250 or 300 gr)
Two Pyrodex 50 gr. pills or 2-50's and one 30 gr. pill.
One moderate-fire 209 primer (Winchester or CCI)

In my encore and my new triumph, I shoot 100 grains of Jim shockey gold loose and a 240 grain .428 round nose lead bullet I mold myself. I use these with a harvestor crush rib sabot. They load well and shoot very well. Very little problems with the shockey gold. The triumph has a built in set of rings like rings on on a piston that stops blow back. This combo works very well and is very cheap and effective. I use a muzzle loader most of the regular season rather than a shotgun which is what I can use here in the southern tier of NY

120 gr. of loose triple7 and a 250 gr. Bonded shockwave bullet is what I use in my Encore pro-hunter.
90 gr. of loose triple7 and a PR 195 DC duplex bullet in my Standard Encore M/L.

Both loads very deadly on deer and bear.

100 grains of loose 777, a 250 grain T/C Shockwave and a Remington Klean Bore primer. Shoots one ragged hole at 100 yards out of my Encore.

Might I suggest something alittle different .For 5 years now I've been using what most would call practice loads with complete success.Powder is 3f Triple 7 with charges of 40 to 70 grains under a T/C Cheap shot ( 240 gr)sabot.Velocity of the 40 grain charge from a 24 inch barrel is 1400 fps and the 70 grn charge fron my 28 inch Omega is 1650 fps.VERY light recoil, excellent accuracy and extremely good terminal performance.The 40 grain charge 9 deer 9 shots at ranges of 15 feet to the great 115 yard shot my daughter made last year.All but 2 shots were pass throughs.These loads are solid .44 mag/ 454Cassul levels and prove that you dont need 1/2 a can of powder to kill a deer at typical ranges. I'm currently experimenting with the .430 240gr Hornady XTP and a NASTY winchester 230 gr .452  hp designed for the .45ACP.Wont go past a 50 gr ( 1500fps) load with the Wincester as it would probably blow the bullet up.Ones recovered from the backstop hold together well and expansion is...dramatic.Our early doe season is coming up in October and I'm anxious to try thet bullet on a deer.Will report results later. I've come to learn that for the most part lighter is better.
