444 Variations ?
« on: August 09, 2007, 07:04:13 AM »
I read on another site about the new 444 being offered in Camo or a different stock other than the Hardwood? I am aware that the H&R website an 2007 catalog only show the hardwood available, however I believe that in the past if a wholesaler requested at least a certain number they would consider doing that as a limited run for that wholesaler. Thanks and if anyone has a pic of the others and what wholesaler offers such (if exists) that would be much appreciated.

Not that I've seen, it's only available with a standard Handi pallet wood stock, but you can put any H&R stock you want on it. Some big retailers and distributors have ordered runs of special edition rifles, but I don't recollect anyone doing that so far on the 444, but that doesn't mean they haven't, just no one has posted anything about em. I ordered an accessory barrel 444 and a camo lam stock at the same time, dunno if that's what you saw elsewhere.

They may have been referring to the original 1:38" 444 H&R, it came with gray lams in an Ultra configuration IIRC.

No, its not the Ultra with the Gray Laminate stocks with the 1:38 twist, I have 1 of them only about 250 of them were supposed to be made.

Do you think the value of the original 444s with the old twist will go down, now that the new 1s are available?

It didn't likely help the value of them, Handi35 tried to sell his original 444 on one of the auction sites twice late last year or early this year, it never sold either time, I guess it wasn't worth as much as he thought. It's like the RMEF rifles or the other chamberings that are no longer made, they're only worth what someone wants to pay for them. I spent $350 on an RMEF Whelen, $275 for a 7x57 in plain stocks, and $200 for a 7x64, I wouldn't spend $350 for the old .444 tho, had the chance once, maybe $275.

So "Tim and others";

 Should I order just the new twist 444 barrel so as to enjpy the Gray Laminate stocks and could devote that frame to the 444s old and new or just buy a complete new 444 Rifle?

I guess that's a question only you can answer, the only issue I see is if the orginal frame was made in 1999 or later, the 444 is a high pressure barrel, so the frame needs to be a late model for them to fit one to it. ;)
