'Filler' screws for the BLR barrell.
« on: October 16, 2007, 05:43:59 AM »
Does anyone know what size screw the sight holes on a BLR take?

I've had a scope mounted to my pistol-grip, 7mmRemMag BLR and want to remove the sights and put in 'plug screws' to protect the threads.  I don't know what size to ask for and my Browning dealer didn't have the right size.

Thanks,

brianb

BigDaddy, I own 9 blrs at the moment and have never found the size to fit the rear sight screw hole. Maybe if you take the screw to a gunsmith he could match it up. Where I live that option is not available to me. If you find out i'd like to know also. Regards, Byron

Most guns use 6-48. The next most common size is 8-40. Almost certainly it will be one or the other as nothing else is used as a general rule.

Those two sizes are "almost" universal in sight attachment and scope base attachment. So if one won't fit being too big that one is most likely 8-40 and the other 6-48. Now there is a remote possibility of it being another size but in guns those two are darn near universal.
