Model 7 SS in .308?

Found a new in box "last year's style" Model 7 stainless synthetic rifle in .308 and can by it for decent money (in my mind anyway).  I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this model/caliber combination?  I have a good buddy that has one just like in .243 and it shoots like a house on fire at least until it heats up.  I like the Model 7s for their handiness and lightweight and I'm sure it will buck a little in that caliber.  Thanks for any replies.  T

I had a Model 7 in 7mm-08 and currently have a MTN Guide in .308.Neither one recoils very hard,but you do need to watch the barrel heating up.After 3 or 4 shots they start to heat up pretty quick.If you like the gun and it fits you,scoop it up as quick as you can.The .308 is really under appreciated (in my mind),they ahve always been acccurate,easy to load for (if you handload) and have plenty of power for anything in NA besides the Brown Bears.Good luck and let us know if you decide to get it.

I think you'd have one of the best deer rifles in NA. Second only to the 7-08.  That light barrel is gonna require a good bit of rest (1.5 minutes or so) between shots when you're working up your load.

I went ahead and bought it, since I reload even in a 20" barrel I can probably get close to factory loads out of a 150 grain bullet.  We'll see though since I'm looking for accuracy first, performance second.  I can even download them some to keep the recoil down to a reasonable level depending on the hunting situation.  I hunt in north central Missouri where your shots may be 50 yards one moment and 300 the next.  You never know.  Lastly who makes a two piece bases for this gun.  It has the two screw rear base setup.  thanks, T.
