Low-recoil slug effectiveness
« on: August 18, 2007, 04:23:58 AM »
I looked through the pages of previous threads on this forum, and couldn't find much, so I thought I'd ask:  Can anyone tell me about their hunting experiences involving the use of 12-gauge low-recoil Foster slugs as loaded by the various manufacturers?

I have used 12ga LR sluggers for a few yrs now in a sawed off 18" remington Model 11 still had plenty of gas to operate the action without tearing your shoulder off I had a red dot sight on it shot 3-4"at 50 to 60yrds and about 6+ at 75 great for the the brush and no problem killing deer when kept under 75yrds. finally found a rifled bbl for the old humpback and it is now shooting hasting lazer sabot 2" at 100yrds. kurt

I love the low recoil 12 gauge slugs.  Out to fifty yards they are almost identical to the standard foster slugs in every respect.  The majority of my deer hunting shots are less than fifty yards (thick brush).

If you need that window between 50 and 100 yards then I'd use the regular slugs.

I really like the Fiocchi and B&P low recoil attached wad slugs.  They shoot about 2-2 1/2" groups in my 870 at 50 yards with an IC choke.  Very easy on the shoulder as well.  IF I had not found the Hastings Low Recoil shoots so well with a Rifled choke in this gun, I would be using them for deer.  The B&P from eabco.com shot slightly better than the Fiocchi, but I don't think the deer would notice. ;)
