Which XTP

What xtp should be used with our BC in 45 colt using ruger data. Would we be pushing the regular xtp too fast or should we be using the xtp/.mag bullet. Sent off to hornady but have not heard back yet. They put their recommended velocity in the box if anyone has this info. I haven't bought any lately so I do not have the info

I have had excellent results with the SPEER 300 as well as the SIERRA 300, both SP. The canelure on the SIERRA makes it too long for lever-action functionality... but its just fine in a Handi!!
 
I do have the 300XTP Mag bullets, but haven't shot any game with them... Sorry I don't have stead fast info for you on the MAG XTP bullet. But I can attest to the performance of the first two bullets I mentioned. They perform as well at the higher velocities attainable from a rifle barrel.

For deer either likely should do fine. The 250 is noticeably thinnner skinned than the 240 and 300s which are intended for the .454 Casull. For broadside deer shots in the heart/lungs that 250 would do fine but might come apart if shot placement was less perfect.

Check this thread out for an alternative, the 250gr SST shows a lot of promise for the 20" barreled 45 Colt BC as a 175yd to 200yd deer getter. ;)

the 250grain will hold up very well i have shot two bucks that were 180/185 lb  one all the way through both lungs  the other hit in the left shoulder  went all the way out the right
