sizing question
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:24:32 PM »
I just got a lee c309-113-f mold  cast a few from wheel weights  they are dropping from the mold at .314 Is this to much to size and get good bullets?  I had the toolmaker in the gauge room check my measurements   his normal tolerances  are + or - .0000002ths so the measurements are right

depends on what size your sizing to. Ive taken 459s down to 452 and 314s down to 310 with no proplems.

Consider yourself lucky. All the Lee die I have do not cast larger than their stated size when using wheel weights. Its easier to size down than to bump up.
.314 sized to .310 or .309 isn't a problem.

I am assuming you are wanting an accurate load??  It has been my experience that the more you size the less accurate the bullet is.  My best accuracy comes form a bullet that I do not size at all. I will admit that I am not an expert with my sizer.  However I would prefer my bullet to be closer to bore.  Tom.

How new is the mould?  That bullet, I believe, is for the 32-20 originally.  The Lee 309 120 is a good small game bullet for .30-30 and .308  I wrap mine in Teflon gasfitters tape

I just bought the mold I called lee they said they would replace it but after sizing I am getting  one ragged hole at 40 yards with A little bit of unique  out of my old h&r single shot   so I think  I'll use it as is  I cleaned up the alignment groove and it is running  about .312 now
3 squirrels  a groundhog and a crow don't care for the bullet /load combo though

If you aer shooting the 32.20 I would take that .314 diameter bullet and drive it with a wooden dowel past the throat about 1" or 2" and measure it.
you might find if it's a old original Winchester you might like that .314 diameter.
The .312 worked good in my rifle. The cast bullet for the .32-20 was cast at .311-.312
