Corrossion on barrell.... Is it safe???
« on: September 29, 2007, 02:50:05 PM »
I have a friend who just got a mosin nagant m44. The barrel under the top hand guard has corrosion/ pitting that is about 1/16 of an inch deep. Is it safe to shoot?? The rifle is from R Guns. Has anyone had any experience with their customer service. I would like to know just in case i have to return it. I went to their website and they say something about a 20 % return fee. I would appreciate any feedback.

External pitting is an unfortunate reality for many surplus rifles. To effect safety it would have to be VERY deep and wide indeed. You may have some recourse depending on what condition they claimed the rifle to be in.

How did you determine it's 1/16 of an inch deep?
