I like CCI's Velocitor ammunition, shoots real accurate, and hits them hard.  Good for about 75-100yd shots if you hit them right.

Jwinva,
Welcome To Graybeard Outdoors!

Make sure to read Verals post (Ammo/Handloading Forum) (Ask Veral Smith) on the CCI Velocitor ammo. Great Stuff as far as the .22LR goes.

It is great to hear a post on the .22WMR. I always used the standard CCI Maxi-Mag in the 40gr Hollow point but there is more in the offering…Remington produces the supreme which is a 33 grain V-Max, twice the weight of the 17 HMR. It arrives at 150 yards at 154 foot pounds energy
compared to the 17 HMR at 108 fpe and again with twice the weight. That’s a 100% heavier bullet with over 40% more energy.

I like cci quick shocks, I shot two in the head at about 50 yards and they were very explosive.

I use Federal American Eagle, AE22, 38 grain, HP, HV.  These are the ones that are 40 to a box.  Additionbally, I use the Paco Tool to open up the hollow point.  They have worked well out to 75 yards on g'hogs in PA.

Best regards,
chalmitch

All rounds mentioned so far have been good ones...but here's another vote for the Velociter..

from my experience on local woodchucks (same critter), the Velociter comes closer in kill power to the .22 Mag than to the .22LR..

Out to about 75yd, with a head shot anything will work. I have killed them with solids, hollow points and about every brand. Amazing as it is, I have killed quite a few with PMC Moderators with head shots at long distance. If it is a body shot, the Win Power Points and velocitors both work equally well. Late season Ground Hogs can soak up a lot with a less that perfect shot even at 50yd or less. Move up to a magnum, they both work great! They both work far better than a 22lr round.

Although I like CCI ammo..stay away from the new .22 Mag "gamepoints"..they are evidently designed for penetration ! For chest shots, they zip in and out with about the same size entrance & exit holes. They are about as effective on chucks as a regular solid point .22 LR..
