Need loads for .357 max

Im waiting on a 357 max barrel for my handi. Ive got the lyman 48th & Lee 2nd edition. Not alot of info on the max. Looking to shoot 180gr xtps Any pet loads out there or suggestions for a new load book.  Thinking about cutting barrel down to 16.5 inches. (Still thinking)

You need to spring for a Hornady or Speer manual (or whatever brand you prefer) so you can get some loads that've been checked out by people with proper equipment and who have years of experience in the field.  I'm always amazed that people will look for load data on a gun forum, it just does not make sense.

  Burnt, you really should get a couple manuals. Yes  there are SOME GUYS who think its fun to push old ladies down stairs. They will tell you a case full of XX powder and the heaviest bullet you can find. I ask on the net for some IDEAS for loading a caliber. Then I see if it's been used by any of the people in the manuals. Or I'll ask the powder maker THEIR thoughts on the "data " I got from the net.

I don't have the Hornady 7th yet, but the 6th edition has data for the 14" TC, as does the Speer #13 and Sierra 5. ;) Hodgdon.com has online data also, as well as AA and Alliant. ;)

My go to powder for all mag. handgun rounds is Win. 296 or H-110. When loaded to max. loads they seem to shoot at least as well as any other load and better than most. You can get data from the pages already posted.

I would suggest you reference the Accurate Arms website. 200 gr. Sierra RN bullets and AA-1680 powder gets it done in mine.

I've never been able to come close to published velocities with AA1680 in the 357 Max.   I would stick with VV N120 or Lil' Gun as both will do better than AA1680.

 Just to show different guns get different results... My Maxi gets better than published velocities with 1680 powder!!  Go figure!!!

 I shoot cast in a TC G2. .357-180 & 35-200 RCBS and a 360230 Hoch.  RL-7 will do it all very nicely :D
