Rechambering

Does anyone have any recommendations on who to go to for rechambering?

I've decided I'd like a Handi in 357 Herrett and rechambering a Handi 357 magnum
barrel looks like it would be an easy route with the only other requirement of a
30-30 extractor to make it all work.

Since I already reload for it in a 10" contender, dies and such aren't an issue.

I know this answer is posted here somewhere but.....is the 357 mag a .357d. or .358d.  bore?  I know shooting a 357d. bullet  in a 358d. bore  will work with success, but what about the reverse?  is accuracy or pressure a problem this way.  thanks--jim

I think it's a great idea since I already did it a couple years ago, had my 357Maxi barrel rechambered,  MSP Ret just had one done not too long ago also. ;)

Tim is correct, both he and I have had it done. My .336 Marlin in .35 Remington is a great deer gun in the Northeast and works all out of proportion to what the ballistics on paper say it should. The .35 Remington is a great and inherently accurate cartridge. In a Handi it is an outstanding hunting combination....<><....:)

Hummmmmmm,
Looks like my BC Carbine may be off the the factory again for a second 357 barrel to re-chamber.  Are there any other parts I need to order and who can do the work?  My 12ga barrel is going to be off for a Poly Choke too.

Ours were done on ejector barrels, you'll get an extractor barrel, you'll need a .30-06 extractor part #R03686 from H&R, should be straight forward and not as much work as an ejector, see the rechambering thread I posted earlier for sources, Wayne York did MSP's and mine.

Anyone rechamber to 358 winchester, not magnum.  Would a 357 barrel work with a 308 extractor?

No one has done it that I'm aware of, MtJerry is wanting to do one, but he hasn't posted on it for a while.

Thanks for all the info.  I wasn't aware that H&R would also sell parts such
as the extractor so I'll make sure I ask for a 30-30 extractor when I put in
my order.

All the part numbers are listed at the bottom of the Handi owner's manual.

revbc, re: the .358 Winchester, I rechambered an ejector barrel to .356 Win ( .358 with a rim ) and it works just fine.
