Adjustable sight on .32 Vaquero single six
« on: August 24, 2007, 09:58:44 AM »
Couldn't find a handgun gunsmith site.

Put a Single six front sight & adjustable rear off Taurus on my Vaquero.

Dave Clements or Alan Harton will put smith sights on them. I think with the single six you are going to need a smith j frame sight. Brownels sells them i believe. Cost should be in the 250 dollar area.

I bought some "J" & "N" frame  adjustable sights from Gun Parts Corp. in 2006 for around 15 bucks each but I'm saving my last "J" frame sights to put on a  Smith project.  That's why I used the Taurus sight, which being metric, is .020" narrower than the Smith sight.  I figured if I screwed up while milling the slot, I could get a second chance by using the Smith sight.

That was clear as mud.  Anyways it was a pretty straightforward project:  mill a slot, drill & tap a few holes, and "Presto!" a Vaquero with adjustable sights.

Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell gunswith, and now I are one!   (NOT)   More like I've been an amateur machinist for ten years, and I've gotten where I'm not afraid to make a mistake on my own stuff.

Always appreciate your input, Lloyd.  I figured I was not clear in what I was trying to say, so I welcomed the opportunity to elaborate.  IS there a handgun gunsmithing site here?

We have only one gunsmithing forum here it is for all guns not specific to short or long guns and we have several folks who make or have made their living as smiths who regularly frequent it. We also have a whole passel of handgun forums here so feel free to post away on either of them as it seems to apply most closely. But if looking for the opinions of a gunsmith on how to do it the gunsmithing forum is the better place to find answers from folks who do it daily. On any of the various handgun forums here you'll find a lot of very experienced handgunners to talk with and some times folks who are gunsmiths read them as well. Even gun makers like Bob Baker of Freedom Arms drop in with us regularly.
