Flooded

I am currently high and dry, but the water is rapidly raising and about a fourth of the city is flooded.  As a result of Erwin we had about seven inches of rain fall Thursday and Friday, this filled the creeks and saturated the ground.  The storm moved west of us, and continued to rain, we are now catching that run off.

I guess there is a bright side to every storm cloud, two area lakes that have been extremely low are now flowing over the spillways, and I understand several more are catching water.

It is a helpless feeling to set and watch, and know there is nothing you can do to stop it.  About all we can do now is be thankful we are high and dry, and say a prayer for those that are flooded.

Man, I hope you stay high and dry.  I'm watching some people being rescued by a chopper on TV.  I guess it's somewhere in Oklahoma.

I wish 7" of rain would fall here. I've not had much more than that all year long so far and we normally get 50" to 60" per year here. Yeah it's DRY. You guys are getting way more than you need and this part of the world is getting almost nothing. Sure wish we could trade with you awhile.

Careful what you wish for GB. We had a two year drought here, where corn came up about 3 feet tall, and then just fell over. Since we live in black gumbo soil, foundation repair businesses are booming. And then it started raining. I mean really raining. Two people drowned in Sherman Tx. on our HIGHWAYS. The spillway went over at Lake Texoma for only the third time in over 60 years, and now our foundations to our homes are moving again, wheat rotted in the field, and much of the corn drowned. One extreme to another.

Im in central Arkansas and like GB I could use some rain, I got rid of my cows last year because it was dry and they were giving POWDERED milk, and this year I saw a tree chasing a dog.   JIM   Those of you that are getting all this rain be careful and safe.   JIM

Terribly dry here too. Little spring rains, I sowed well over 1,000 flower seeds for my wife and 60-70 special sunflower seeds, I have one sunflower and 7 other flowers that came up. We had .3 of an inch in 10 weeks, then 4or 5 inches of rain. Less than an inch in over a month now. Temps have set records, well over 100 for quite a few days, in upper 90s or higher the past 23 days. Last wed it was officially 105, with a bank showing 111 degrees. We are really praying for rain right now. POWDERMAN.

Like my fellow Texans my part of the state is at about a 15" surplus for the year.  Those super low water bills were the silver lining in the clouds.  It was nice not to be under water restrictions and actually have a green lawn.

I bought a load of water yesterday, $44. Last night they said there was a slight chance of up to .8 for today. Woke up this morning to a real toad strangler, we got just over 3 inches today. Too late for the fields I fear, hayfields and pastures are brown. Several farmers are chopping their corn for sileage because of poor quality ears. All I got to say is, THANK YOU LORD. POWDERMAN.

If I thought buying $44 worth of water would get me 3" of rain I'd buy $100 worth.

Bill we dump out 7" from the rain guage at the farm Sunday morning we almost lost our dam on the big pond for the second time this year. They are forecasting another big rain by the end of the week. It's been a strange year. Here it is  August and the pastures are green and all the ponds are full. I wont complain though the last two years we fought wild fires constantly.
Dad use to say when it got dry we needed to pay the preacher, This year I think the preacher won the lottery

Dee.  I know about them foundation repairs, I just had 19 pier's put in, they raised the slab on my house about 5 inches on one side.  Funny, this house is fairly new, and has cracks all over it.  I also own a house that is well over 75 years old, it is also on a slab, but has no sink-age, and no cracks.  I guess there is some truth to the statement that "they don't build em like they use to." 

We were fairly lucky compared to other parts of the country.  We did (the area) suffer some damage from the rains, but it wasn't as bad as initially expected.  This was a strange storm, it set over the area for well over 48 hours, dumping as much as 13 inches in some areas.  Several lakes that were near dry were over flowing their spillways, the first time they had caught any appreciable amount of water in seven-eight years.

I wish we could have helped you out GB.  We could have given you half of what we got and still had plenty.

One of my employees was in Abilene earlier this week Rockbilly - she said the flooding was pretty bad.  It seems it's all about extremes.

Heavy C.  We were very fortunate, it flooded, but not near as bad as some areas of the country.  Watching the news,  the folks in Ohio suffered far greater damage than we did, our thoughts and prayers go out for them.  I had very minor damages to my house several years ago, but I know first hand the pain and suffering that goes along with the loss.  When everything is lost, it must be devastating.

We do have something to be thankful for.
