I think I may be in the market for an adjustable sighted, 9mm single stack 1911. Oh heavens! Of course I want a 9mm 1911!! I want to explore all my options. I have looked at the Springfield, STI, and Kimber. All are nice. I want to look at any other manufacturers pistols as well. How about Dan Wesson and RIA. Can anyone provide a link that will take me to a site where I can at least look over their offerings, if any? Any help appreciated!

I would suggest a Star model B in 9mm luger/para? Its a exact copy of a 40's colt 1911. Its a little thinner if you ask me but its a neat pistol.

The CZ's are awesome right now too. The military CZ82 in 9mm mak is being offered really affordable too and come in excellent condition too. Aim Surplus has them for $209. It comes with two 12rd mags thats 13rds with one in the pipe. My excellent one is my safe queen and my vg one is my new carry gun after i test fire it of course. I also have the CZ85DB in 9mm, the CZ83 in 9mm mak and the CZ83 in 380acp too. The CZ line of pistols is awesome and overlooked by many there the first choice of the russian spec ops. Thanks for the reply! What I'm looking for is another ESP division pistol for IDPA. I have a CZ, and it is indeed a fine pistol. Just want another 1911.

Savage : A 1911 in 38 super!! Now that has me squirming in my chair, I just keep waiting for someone to bring one into the pawn shop and asks me to take it off of their hands or what would I give them trade in on a handi rifle. LOL JIM

Savage, Like you, I was feeling the need for another ESP gun for IDPA, so I'm in the process of building a 1911 in 38 Super. I'm also going to fit it with a 9mm barrel. 38 Super gets expensive for those events when they don't let you pick up your brass.

I have a 9mm Colt Combat Commander, nice gun, but those Government sites come up a little short for IDPA

I wanted to build from scratch a complete 1911 that would be very accurate almost as good as a competition 1911. I have the upper slide assembly(barrel/parts) and the lower inside frame parts. Now i need a new frame to start my build. I said this on the forum a while back but my projects always get side tracked when something else comes up. I was thinking of doing a build in 45acp and in 9mm if the 45acp build goes well.

I know the cost of doing a build is more than the lowest cost of a new 1911 but in the end after all the work I will end up with a better gun thats more accurate too.

You're right about the cost. I have a couple of parts guns I have assembled. Both ended up costing more than I could have bought a NICE 1911 for. Mine have been nothing special in the performance department, which is not surprising as I am not a gunsmith. I bought parts for my builds over a period of time. When I totaled up the cost of the parts, I went into shock! I think for around $800 I can buy a 9mm 1911 that will perform better than one I could assemble from parts. If it doesn't I'll sure ship it back to the factory to make it right. It's fun putting one together from parts tho, if you've never done it before. It really helps you to understand the relationship of the parts to the function of the pistol. These days I'm long on time and short on patience!

Savage try as I may, I dont have too much trouble sleeping, however in the main safe at present I do have a essex frame mounted in some kind of carbine barrel assembly, which I have been thinking about taking home and adding a good upper to it, now if that all comes together I will get a couple good nites sleep, not crazy about the essex frame, no experience with it but if it comes up late will be on the way to the house and when finished I will have a carbine barrel assembly for sale. Savage: see if you can find one in 38 Super/9x23 Winchester and drop a 9x19mm barrel init and have a ball. I have been looking for a 38 Super slide, at the minimum or a complete upper in 38 Super/9x23 for a Series 70 Colt, for about a year or so but haven't found one yet. Found that a buddy's Series 70 38 Super slide fits my Springfield frame perfectly, and now I want one.........

I once put together a mismatched parts gun using an Essex frame and Colt parts - it worked. Functioned just fine and was pretty accurate but traded it for a Gold Cup. It was a lot of work getting the parts to match up. The Essex frames are made to the original 1911A1 specs and there are some tolerances that will have you scratching your head and cussin' up a storm. HTH. Mikey.

It would be great if I could find a complete upper like you mentioned! Never seen one for sale tho. There are plenty of new pistols available in 38 super tho. Surprised you haven't jumper on one.

I have a good friend who says I am CHEAP I just tell him I am CONSERVATIVE, I havent seen any 38 super uppers however 45 acp uppers are always around, no hurry there are always other projects going on, if this carbine comes up late I would like to take the barreled action less the frame to Tulsa in Oct. Savage: I know I can find aftermarket slides in 38 Super for around $100 from adds in the Shotgun News, probably complete uppers for another $100 or so and fit it to my Springfield frame but I dunno. New ones sure sound nice but I dunno...If I could put one together that would put 3 rounds into a dime at 25 yds (if I could see the dime) I would be happy, or happier probably but then I would want to fiddle with something else. It's a never-ending story......................Mikey. Or then I just may go and buy a new one just ot make sure I have a new one. Ya know what I mean?

Cheap vs. Conservative? I prefer the word "Frugal". Not cheap because being cheap usually yields bad results. But not wasting money lavishly either.

"FRUGAL" I like FRUGAL is kinda has a aristacratic sound to it, we are going to a gunshop auction this friday thats going out of business, when we go for lunch I will let him pick up the ticket as I will tell him I am now FRUGAL, he will get a kick out of it as we both are rather TIGHT with the $$$ JIM

Id take a sti trojan 9mm hands down. Mine is one of the finest 1911s ive ever shot. Its been totaly reliable and shoots one inch groups with cast reloads.

I'm very frugal too but there's a difference between being frugal and how bad you really want it. If i want it really bad i forget i'm frugal.......sometimes we just have top pay the price after all we can't take any $$ with us when we leave this place right? I try to enjoy everyday....
