shootin low how to fix?
« on: October 15, 2007, 02:23:14 PM »
Went to the range with my 1858 remmi 5-1/2" barrel.  I was using 25g of fffg with a .451 ball.  The pistol is shooting 4-6" low at 20 yards.  Is there any way to bring point of impact up to point of aim?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try shooting from a bench with the gun supported.
Most cap and ball guns shoot high.
Shooting from a supported postion will show if you are jerking the trigger when firing.
If the gun still shoots low from the rest then it's a easy fix.
Just file a little bit at a time from the front sight, checking after each filing for bullet impact.
You can always take more off ,but it's hard putting it back on once it's off, so check often.

Willy's got it right.

Trim the front sight.

Sorry, didn't mean for that to rhyme.

got back from the range after playing with the front sight.  got it where it now shoots about 2" low at 20 yards.  I think one more range trip and I'll have it where I want it.

Thanks for the instructions on how to fix the problem.
