your WIFE bought you a RIFLE?  I would pass out and need the paddles to bring me back if my wife bought a rifle, let alone ammo.

Seriously, congrats.

Congrats! I have the same combo and that is where my addiction began. You will like both the Huntsman and the 243.

Thanks, yeah i'm purty well stoked myself. the huntsman came with all the accessories. and she got me a box of shells for the .243, and 3 packages of sabot rounds and primers for the ML.
i had to send in my 35whelen for a fix, and was b*tchin* about getting it back on time for deer season.. so, i guess she got tired of hearing me whine... lol
its going to be a good season and i got alot of a$$ kissing and 'love you wife"'s to be saying for about a year, lol ..

My wife has never gone out and actually bought a rifle for me but she does understand my passion for them and I don't have to have a great excuse for getting another. Have fun with your new rifle(s) and please post range reports when you can.

I can't offer anything on the Huntsman barrel, don't have one, but I don't recollect anyone having anything negative about them except the ramrod, I'd check out the Huntsman forum on it, you'll probably want to replace the ramrod with a Hubbard.

As for the 243 barrel, I have 3 of em, two 24" bull barrels, considered the best of 243 barrel options, and a 20" Superlight, the worse of them to choose from considering the experience of most that have owned them, I like em all, even the Superlight shows promise, tho I've only worked one handload in it so far. Yours is likely an ejector if it was made in 2004, I'd polish the chamber and clean it good inside and out, then shoot it with 100gr Federal Power Shoks and 95gr Fusions, 243s seem to be more prone to sticking brass, but I've only had brass stick in mine after cleaning at the range, forgot to wipe the chamber!! ::) But I polished the chamber before I even shot it, expected it may be an issue, never has been tho. ;D

Ditto to what Tim said. And the Fusions are the cats meow on whitetail ;D

Ok, i'll read the Huntsman sections, thoroughly..
as far as the .243 goes, i have the regularly contoured barrel i'd say, surely isnt the bull barrel.  yeah its an ejector, shoots the empties about 10 feet, lol.. if i let it. is having the ejector style a good or bad thing ? tougher to pick up the brass for reloading i'd guess is about it.
i cleaned the whole package real well, just full of crud !wow. i'll get some flintz and polish the bore on the .243 some

My wife dont hunt, but understands that i do and that i enjoy it. i'm very picky about my guns and how they are/get handled. the rifle i sent to NEF is on its way back, and i said, " i hope i dont need to send it back because of any scratches or dings from them fixing it" .. so she bought me the package deal, knowing that i have a block permit hunt coming this winter. i dont see anything wrong with her buying me something like this.  i wasnt making any excuses for needing another gun, just stating my view about gun that NEF fixed.  also, im in the process of selling off/ or trading my other pieces , so i have a fully Handi collection, and see probably will buy one of those for me too..just like i buy her stuff she is interested in... its sorta what we do.

i will post a range report on all 3 new guns, as soon as i get out to my range and set these guns up.
