Encore Pro Hunter vs 'Standard' Encore--differences?
« on: July 26, 2007, 07:18:59 AM »
I'm having a hard time sorting the differences between the Encore Pro Hunter model and the 'standard' Encore...in both frames and barrels.  I'm considering one or the other and could use some help.  Idaho deer and larger varmints are the targets...  Thanks for the help.

Aside from the swing hammers, 28" fluted barrels, {compared to the 24" and 26" non fluted regular encore barrels}, laser etched graphics, flex tek stock, and flex tech forends, they are the same thing one just has a few extra frills to go with it.
24" 7mm-08 in a blued/walnut configuration would suit me well over there, if short range was the norm, a 20" custom .44mag, in blued/walnut of course.

Swampthing-
Does one have any better reputation for accuracy, better fitting, etc?  Seems like there is a pretty good price difference for frills that don't necessarily put venison on the table...  Perhaps your comment about a blued, walnut, 24" barrel suiting you answers my question!
Thanks!

Exactly. I have "heard" that the shoot pretty much the same on average. After all they are basically the same. If you reload it will be very accurate, if you don't, you should have no problem finding ammo that will. The factory will stand behind their product. If it ain't accurate they will give you a new barrel. If it a sloppy fit they will "respec" the frame, for life.
I would opt for the wood over synthetic, gives you some meat in the grip area to hold on to.

FedEx brought my new Encore today!  I ended up getting the Pro Hunter 26" .308 Win with thumbhole stock.  Not the way I was leaning but I had a chance to shoot a friend's and really liked it...  I was pleasantly surprised at the heft/balance of the standard contour barrel.  I have a virgin Leupold VX-III 4.5-14X AO for long range/load testing and a VX-III 1.5-5X illuminated plex reticle for black timber...  I just need to spend time at the range.  Thanks again for the info!  I love this forum!

I have both the Pro-hunter and standard Encore and they both shoot as accurate as the other. I like the appearance of the Pro-hunter over the standard Encore. Other than the swing hammer and fluted barrels and some fancy etching they are one in the same.

Last year I was standing at the Cabelas counter with a large gift certificate looking at the "regular" Encore and the "Prohunter" frame. I came home with the Prohunter frame and Prohunter barrel in 243 and this is one gun combo that will never get sold.

This spring I bot a new car. It was a Chevy Impala. Nice car. I got it in Red. Nice color. Oh, it's the Impala SS with the V8 engine.  ;D  It's kind of like the Encore vs the Prohunter. Same thing, but different.

I'd like to see them do a blued prohunter, with walnut like they use on that T/C ICON rifle being made.

Yeah....I hear ya. I like SS gun's 'n such...but blued are kind of a classic look....even when they are brand new guns.

My receiver is SS but I bought a blue barrel...looks just fine, especially with the camo stock!  I generally am a traditionalist...this is the first SS or camo rifle for me.  Somehow it just clicked
With any luck I'll shoot it tomorrow...

All she'll need is a trigger job, and some American black walnut. That is nice.

Sent my stainless encore with muzzleloader barrel and 7MM Rem Mag barrel to, BlackIce.com, and had them finished in matte black.

With the gray (salt/pepper) factory stocks it looks great.
Like it much better than the "white" stainless look and have all the good things about stainless.

For those who have both;  How effective is the flex-tech stock in reducing felt recoil?

Rebal,

I really can't help you on that one. I have the flex-tech stock, but I only have the 243 barrel...so that's no test. However, I do install Limbsavers on any heavy recoiling gun that I have and they are worth the $. So, I would expect the stock to work well with a heavy recoiling caliber.

I have a pro hunter with its regular black stock. one with a thumb hole synthetic and another one on order. I also have a walnut stock. The PH stock does reduce recoil but 40% I don't know. I found the thumb hole PH stock even better in reducing recoil for me.
