well from lurking around and reading alot of posts (and wanting to get more bang for the buck) i have decided to start using cast bullets. i have a guy who is made me 400 310 grain bullets to start with. so i have a few questions. what is the purpose of sizing? this guy says that typically these bullets come out at a perfect size for most 44 mags; especially the rugers. why would you want to size them then? second question. what is a good lube to use. i want something clean and easy. third ? - if i keep these loads under 1000 fps do i need a gas check?
i am trying to do this as cheap as possible. my plan is to use the bullets he made for me for hunting and d&j bullets of equal weight for practice (if they hit the same point of aim). if the bullets work out good, i will buy a mold and give it to my pops and then he can keep me in supply from that point on- dont feel too bad for him boys, i plan on giving him my 10.5 inch blackhawk for father's day this year. that way he will have motivation for making the 44 bullets.
