Firelapping a 9mm AR
« on: August 19, 2007, 04:29:02 PM »
Veral, I am going to firelap my 9mm AR with your products.  Since it has a 16" barrel, what Bullseye powder charge would you recommend?  I am guessing a grain and a half if it will push the slug out of the barrel.  Anything I need to do different from firelapping my revolvers?  I am planning to shoot mostly cast bullets in this gun.

Will the firelapping pull out a little bit of copper fouling, or do I need to clean it really good before I lap the barrel.

Thanks,

Craig

In a 9 MM case 1 1/2 gr will be plenty, and perhaps 1 grain better.  Up the charge as needed for the larger revolver catridges.

Give the jacket fouling a good soaking prior to lapping, with the best copper solvent your gun shop sells.  This will soften it and the first few lap bullets will whisk it away quicker than a brush.

Once you are done lapping and get an LBT mold, you will have no reason to ever shoot jacketed again.
