Daisy VL 22

I have a Daisy VL22  that was made in the 1960's. Its a 22 cal self contained firearm made by the daisy company. The federal government made daisy stop producing them as they were not a firearms manufacturer.
 Has anyone seen or heard of one of these guns?  ???

  I bought one new waaaaay back when, in fact i was one of the first to get one... and i had a lot of ammo for it too....  It just wasn't accurate, as if even a little nick in the propellent would make fliers, and there were a lot of nicks!

 I would like to find some ammo for it just to shoot it a few times. I wrote to daisy about it and was told they were only made for 1 year i think it was. I was told that it has some collector value as well.
 I have looked at gun shows and I cant get any ammo for it as of yet,but I keep looking.

the guy who got me into reloading had one back in the 1970's.  He let me shoot it a little but we didn't really give it a work out.  I have heard a few stories about why it disappeared but its my impression it just wasn't a market success. I don't think it was as powerful as a Long Rifle. More like a novelty gun.  Seems like I have seen rifles and ammo offered now and then but don't recall where.  Maybe here on GB's classifieds, or maybe Troyer's American Airguns Free Classifieds.  Maybe Gun Broker.  Look around stuff is still out there.

  At the time these things were in the making, there was a huge amount of hype about our military develouping "caseless" ammo....  Daisy used it to plug there new round, and i was hot to get one.  I was dang near on a letter writeing compain with them to get my hands on one, and they sent me all kinds of info...

  It was the "future" according to them, and i remember they made some of the guns with oval (brass?) plates in the stocks for your name to be engraved in...  It seems to me like they were wanting guys to order them ahead of time, paying for them and then you would get one with your name on it...  I wish i could remember better, but that was a LONG time ago now... 

  The ammo came in plastic tubes with the bullets "end to end" and that's why the propelant was damaged so easily.  Just in handleing, the nose from one bullet damaged the propellant it was resting on...

  I remember being very diaspointed with them, (it seems like i tried 2 of them) as there were fliers all over the place...
