New Handi...well, not really.
« on: August 29, 2007, 07:05:28 AM »
A buddy of mine gave me a Handi chambered for 243cal with a bull barrel (I think anyway).  I can't tell, but it starts at about 1.0-1.2" at the chamber and then tapers to about 0.5-0.75" at the muzzle.  He got it on a trade and didn't have use for it.  My question is, how can I find out who was the original owner, born on date, and whether its been used in a crime.  The serial # is as follows: NK457XX.  I delete the last two digits since everyone else does too.  Any info. would greatly be appreciated.  Later.

The local PD should have access to the feds to look up whether it was listed as stolen at any point.  I don't know if they would just look it up for grins and giggles though.  I had a crackhead break in and take my electric razor, VCR, and toaster one time.  The reporting officer was back in 30 minutes wanting to know why my $40 Emerson VCR came back stolen.  Unless you know someone, then it might be a question of NOT going at shift change, go in the morning and be prepared to wait.

Whether it was used in a crime is not going to be answered by a computer.  The FAQ will tell you the year it was made.

Congrats, the FAQs will also help ID the barrel contour, sounds like a standard barrel to me if it's less than .750", you'll need a more accurate measurement than a ½-¾" range. All H&R rifle and shotgun barrels(except the 10ga and 12g slug gun) measure 1.1XX" at the chamber swell. FYI, that frame can't be fitted with any * marked barrels in the accessory barrel list, it's too old, they won't even fit another 243 barrel to it. :'(
