super 14" 22LR shooting low
« on: September 01, 2007, 05:27:17 PM »
Hi all.  I finally got to the range today to finish sighting in a couple barrels.  My 44 barrel is now shooting nicely as far as I have any business shooting it.  I was unable to get my 22 barrel to shoot consistently on the paper.  I is still shooting low, regardless of how far I raise the rear sight.  I actually backed the screw all the way out while trying to raise my poing of impact.  Any ideas what is goin on?  Do I need to shim the back sight or something?  I'd like to use this as a squirrel or rabbit gun this fall but I can his a can of corn with it right now.

You probably have mismatched sights on it. Did you buy it new with those sights or used? Way too many folks remove sights from TC barrels and scope them and then don't put the correct sights back on them when they sell the barrels. I'm not sure just how many different heights of rear blades there are but I'm sure I've seen at least three or four. Front sights also come in varying heights I think. If you are shooting low you want to either raise rear sight or lower the front one to raise POI.

I'm guessing yours has a rather low height blade for the rear and needs a taller one.

I'll have to take a closer look at the sights.  I came by the barrel used at a local sporting goods store.  The prior owner may have taken off a scope and thrown a rear sight on it before selling it.  Thanks GB.

Take a look at the first post on this forum.  The sight charts may be helpful in determining what you have and what you need.

Good info in that first post.  What dimensions are they referring to with regard to the rear sight?  The vertical portion at the back?
