I called Bullberry today just on the off chance they would have a barrel I would be interested in. I am the new owner of a full bull stainless 12" 6BR.
Plus they had some others also. 6PPC, 6x47 Imp, 7-30 Waters, 7-30 Waters Imp, just to name a few. Kyode...I hope this shoots good as a 12 incher(dreaming), you always say yours does. I am excited and had to tell someone. Should be here next week. Have to wait on a forend to send with it. :-D

wonderful! if it won't shoot, it's the shooter :shock:

mines just 13" and it's great. i've not worked with it enough yet, but plan on finding some more loads. been shootin the 6tcu lately, trying to form brass and work up loads for it. my best group with the 6br encore barrel was .850" for 5 shots at 100 yards. plenty good enough for deer, but i'm sure it will do better. the load is 27.5gr of h322 with sierra 80gr single shot pistol bullet, cci br-4 primer, and lapua brass. if it won't shoot less than 1/2", i'll give it to ya moe :eek: just give me time to find the right load. :-D right now i'm waiting to find something out on my redding 6br dies. i had to send them back to redding because they were not resizing the case enough at the web. this made my cases too tight to close on, even after full length sizing until the press cammed over on the die. :roll: hey moe! :idea: first thing you want to do is get that forearm off the barrel by some means. being a poor cheapskate, i just use graybeards idea of using a couple pieces of folded electrical tape. it works fine for me, but maybe you have a fancy hanger bar setup coming? 12" of barrel will be fine, just fine. :-)

I just have to steep in too

I have a 15" 6BR that is SWEET.Try some 75gr V-Max's with 30.2grs of IMR4064.This load shoots nice best group to date is .284 3@100.The worst group being at .899 for 5@100

Your 12' barrel should do just danddy.

Kyode, yes it will have the hanger bar system. I use the black rubber grips so I will have a black laminate forend. I can hardly wait. I have a 6 TCU also that is a pleasure to shoot. Need to do more work with it also. To many toys... :-)

Good morning Moe. I am not KYODE or JAVALINA, but wil add a couple comments anyway.

First off CONGRATULATIONS on the 6mm BR Barrel. While I have never owned or shot a 6mm BR, I am an avid fan of 6mm Handguns. In years past I have had Handguns chambered in both the 6mm-223 & .243 Winchester. Currently I have a 15" VVCG 6mm T/CU that I am working with.

YEP I do like 6mm Handguns, and I think the biggest reason is the availability of different Bullet Weights and Configurations. I have used 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, 58gr. Hornady V-MAX, 60gr. Sierra Hollow Points, 70gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, 70gr. Hornady SX, 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, 80gr. Speer Spitzers, 80gr. Remington PLHP's, and 90gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. I have taken everything from Gophers to Whitetails with 6mm Handguns with excellent results. Granted there have been a couple of these bullets mentioned that have been disappointments.

I think one of the major things the 6mm Handguns have going for them is IMPACT VELOCITY. In my opinion this creates more rapid energy transfer and shok resulting in performance all out of proportion to the size of these cartridges and bullets. Now granted that is not all that goes into the equazion, but the Bullets themselves also play a major role in this.

I also think the 6mm BR has about the optimum case capacity for use in Handgun Barrels, and as such should make an excellent choice. Again Congratilations on the barrel. Now enjoy.

yep, the 6mm's are just a favorite of mine too. the recoil is just not enough to be uncomfortable, they all are just super accurate, and like sdhandgunner said, the bullet selection is great. really in my opinion, they are all pretty close in performance too. 6x45, 6x47, 6tcu, 6br, 6x30-30. i would like to have one of each

Question for all 6mmTCU & 6mm-.223 handgun shooters past & present.

"If you had to choose just one bullet for everything from ground squirrels to whitetails, what would it be??"

"If you could choose just 2 bullets, what would they be?"

I'm really thinking of getting a 14" Contender barrel in 6mm based on the .223 case, and would like to use it for ground squirrels, coyotes, to Sitka Blacktail deer. And I'd prefer a "one load does it all", but would do two if necessary.

Any and all input would be appreciated from you 6mm fans!

Only one bullet it would have to be a 80gr Speer.........

Just two bullets it would be a 75gr V-Max for small things and a 85gr Barnes XLC BT.

Well Del, now you are entering dangerous territory. I am sure you will probably get as many different answers as people that respond to this.

One Bullet to do it all, 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip, 80gr. Sierra Blitz, 80gr. Sierra Single Shot Pistol Bullet, or the 80gr. Speer Spitzer. It would depend on which one produced the best accuracy in the given barrel.

Two Bullets to do it all, my choices as to what I am using are the 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip and the 80gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. However again, there are a lot of choices out there, and it would largely depend on which bullets were the most accurate in the given barrel. Both of these bullets are wonderfully accurate in my barrel. I have always been able to achieve good accuracy with Ballistic Tips.

Like I said, others opinions will more than likely be different.

i totally agree with sd handgunner on the 80gr bullets he named for the one bullet load. i tend to lean towards sierra on lots of occasions and think the 80gr sspb and 80gr blitz by sierra are just great. they would also serve the one bullet load just fine in my opinion. as a matter of fact, i know a feller on another forum that uses the sierra 80gr sspb for all his 6mm chores. it may not be explosive on the small varmints but will still put a hole in one.
for a second bullet, again it would depend on which bullet your barrel prefers. my 6tcu likes a sierra 70gr blitzking, and shoots it very accurately. the hornady v-max's would be super, as would a speer 70gr tnt. my 6tcu just will not group that bullet well. then the 55gr nosler would be like a stick of dynamite, as would the sierra 60gr hollowpoint.
it's really tough to pick just one. BUT! that's a good thing. there are just so many great 6mm bullets to choose from.

:idea: if i may suggest a little idea :lol: start out with either the 80gr sierra blitz or single shot pistol bullet. work up a load and use it for whatever you need to hunt. then as time goes you can play around to find the most accurate ligtweight super explosive bullet for varmints. i have talked to the sierra bullet technicians about the comparison of the two 80gr bullets. they say they are constructed nearly equal. the exception being that the blitz bullet has a boattail. it is also a little more streamlined looking by my observation.
i think it is a great choice you made in a 6mm contender barrel. let us know which one of them you end up with. i have used the 6x47, 6tcu, and 6br(encore). i absolutely enjoy shootin the things, and i'd say you will too

Hi Moe,

6 BR eh? Congratulations on a GREAT choice! That should cure any accuracy ills you may have. There is one terrible problem with 6 BR's that I'm sure you will find out about very quickly - you will be going nuts trying to keep track of how many bullets go through the same hole! :-D

We want a full report on how accurate Fred's barrel is and I'm sure you'll be bragging (and rightfully so) for a long time on this barrel! VERY COOL BRO'! :grin:

Thanks guys, now comes the big question: What is "THE" powder to use in a handgun barrel with this caliber? Some have mentioned some already, like H335 (also for the TCU?). Any other experiences? PJ how about you?
Javalina, good to see you're back, hope everthing went well.
I have some Nosler 70 gr BT's and Sierra 80 gr SSP, and some 65 Gr BK on hand, also a few 90 gr R-P's to try.
I really am a big fan of .25's and I have two, but I agree with SD, the bullet choices in 6mm forced me in that direction also. I love my 6TCU, just haven't shot it much lately.

Got my brass and dies yesterday, also my scope(NCStar) doesn't look to bad. For $40 I thought I would give it a try. Picked up some H322 today. Just waiting on the barrel and forend. They were shipped yesterday. Hopefully I will get them tomorrow.

sounds like you're about ready to go. what kinnda brass did you get? ain't that ncstar scope kinnda amazing to look thru for that kinnda money? as far as looks, i'd place it equal with a 2x6 bushnell trophy or 2.5x8 weaver. if it will just hold zero, we'll be alright. i have mine mounted on my new 30-30 improved barrel and ready to head for the range at first chance. h322 should produce great groups. a feller i met at the range was using h335 in his 6br with speer 70gr tnt's. i haven't tried anything but h322 so far.

For all you guys/gals that have or had a 6mmTCU, 6mm-.223, 6X45, etc.

Bob Milek once wrote to make 6mm-.223 cases a person could just fire .223 ammo in his 6mm-.223 chambered gun to form brass. Since the case body & shoulder angle stayed the same, the only thing you were doing is opening the neck from .223 to .243.

Can this be done in a barrel chambered for the 6TCU as well?

Is the 6mm-.223 the same as the 6X45? (Sounds like the same to me, but I've read that the .17Rem. is slightly different then the .17-.223).

Any information you could share would be appreciated. I'm looking at getting a 6mm based on the .223 case as my next Contender barrel.

Del, Moe is correct the 6mm-223 & the 6x45mm are indeed one in the same. The 6mm T/CU is an IMPROVED version of the 6mm-223 (6x45mm) cartridge in that with the 6mm T/CU the case body is blown out straighter, and the should angle is also increased in the process.

While I am sure you could indeed shoot a .223 Remington cartridge in a 6mm-223 (6x45mm) or 6mm T/CU chamber to fireform brass, I really do not see the need to do this. The 6mm-223 (6x45mm) & 6mm T/CU Dies I have had all have had Tapered Expanders so necking up .223 Remingon cases to 6mm is quite a simple task.

As for Fireforming a necked up .223 case to 6mm T/CU, in my barrel I am getting good velocity and quite good accuracy with my fireform loads, and am currently using my Fireform Loads for Varminting. However VVCG chambered my 6mm T/CU chamber quite tight, and as such I have to push the shoulder back slightly on NEW Winchester .223 cases to get them to chamber. YES I am still leaving them slightly long so as to have sort of a crush fit in the chamber to eliminate unwanted case stretching upon fireforming.

I always prefered the 6mm-223 (6x45mm) Cartridge over the 6mm T/CU as I did not want to go through the hassle of Fireforming Brass. This barrel / chamber has changed my mind on this subject, and I am quite pleased with the results I am getting. To date I have not worked up any loads in formed brass, but hope to get time to do this in the not to distant future. Too many projects, too little time.

Well I got my 6Br today. Its really a .25Br. Now I have to send it back and wait or get my money back. Either way I am really upset. Now I have had a problem with Reeder, Van Horn, VVCG, and BB.
I believe Buckwheat got a .25 while expecting a 6mm also. :evil:

Del, you can fire .223 ammo in a 6tcu to form the case. i did it myself with about 40 rounds just as an experiment and to get rid of some junk .223's and also add a few extra cases to the 6tcu batch. it works fine for forming but really sucks. you can't expect to hit anything at all, even at 25 yards. not worth the trouble unless you just have a very few to get rid of, or want to play around and experiment. like sdhandgunner said, loading and fireforming 6tcu's is no trouble at all. they are SUPER accurate and you get in needed practice at the same time. i'm having good luck with IMR4198 with sierra 70gr blitzkings, and H335 with about 4 different 80gr bullets.
MOE, dang that is aggravating! i would send it back and get the 6br. it's worth the wait. i'd see if they will give you a little better deal for the trouble and extra wait. looks like they should be more careful!

I tried calling yesterday. It was after 5pm so they were probably closed. Also e-mailed, but don't expect an answer today. Will definently call first thing Monday, sending it back today! I'm sure it will be handled correctly, its just a pain in the you know what. Thats why I called to see what inventory they had so I wouldn't have to wait. I'm an impulse buyer. :evil:

moe, i'm sure they will take care of it. i had some question on my barrel, which turned out to be a die problem. jeff at vvcg had me send it in for a complete checkup. the barrel checked out fine. they were eager to help out even though i had my barrel several months. no charge whatsoever. i can sure understand the frustration though. i'd press them a little for a discount. but be nice! :lol:
