Mold order size vs bullet size?
« on: August 27, 2007, 11:44:56 PM »
Veral.
Why is it that a person can tell a mold maker the size he wants a bullet to drop at, and with that give alloy, heat used, etc, etc, everything imagineable, yet the mold maker doesnt send a mold thats maybe 1-2 thousands over. Its 5-6 thousands over the size, making crimp groove useless. Well basically kaking the mold garbage. How could there be this much discrepency?

If my answer awaits much longer I'm sure you'll be able to figure out which maker did it to me/us

Veral only checks in here a couple times a week on average. He has to spend most of his time making moulds to make a living so he really doesn't have time to get on the internet daily. Be patient and he'll be here to respond to you. He backs his work so if he made one not right I'm sure he'll take care of it for you.

I would also be curious as to whether you have addressed this issue with said mould maker yet, or if you felt this would be the most public way? If a mistake was made, and the manufacturer wouldn't make it right, we would like to know about it. If you haven't addressed it with him yet, I don't think it is appropriate to stir a stink here first. I've never known Mr. Smith not to make his infrequent mistakes right, which you will see posted here if you'll read down through the posts on this board.

Just my opinion, Regan

My guarantee for 27 years of mold making is  "Not more than .0015 over specified diameter, not less than specified diameter."  I require the alloy to be named, but heat you cast at makes no difference, as the alloy solidifies at one temperature.  I need a bit of rope to run with on weight, because of variables which go crazy with alloy and diameter changes, but give me a range you'll be happy with, say 5% of bullet weight for acceptable range and I'll guarantee that too.  in other words, if the desired weight is 300 gr, 5% would be 15 grains.  If 300 grains is the minimum weight acceptable, I'll aim a bit over, if 300 is max, I'll aim a bit under.

I don't date my guarantee, because the fact of whether I screwed up or not doesn't change with time.  So,  if you break your casting finger or get a heart attack or have to live through a mother in law visit, or for whatever reason don't learn the mold is faulty for some time after receiving it, I still make it right.   10 years is the longest time i've covered a mold so far, but that isn't the limit..

I brag that my molds are the best, and see to it that you think so.  Quality is the only way I know of to convince customers of it.
