Which BP rifle?

  My Encore had messed up, hammer was locked up, got it free, then the action would not open, so........while I'm having it repaired, going to buy a cheap bp rifle, season opens the 15th in Kansas. My 2 choices are the Tradition Yukon(which is like the new Remington) or the CVA Kodiak (which is like the Encore)....Well guys.....which???

if it was temporay i would go with the traditions till i get my encore back. also the nef muzzleloader would be good. i would go cheap so i don't lose money

If you try the Knight Wolverine they have at Bass Pro Shop for $200.00 you probably won't go back to the Omega.

the yukon is good since its cheap. who wants to spend that much on a gun thats going to be used untill he gets his main rifle back, i might go with something cheaper than that like the cva wolf

I will second the NEF over what else has been suggested except maybe the knight.  Wouldn't buy any traditions or cva period.

Went with the Traditions, wish I hadn't..............really cheap and not accurate. Got mad and ordered a Knight Roling Block from Bass Pro....taking my Omega Z5 to my Gun Smith tomorrow, see if he can fix it............

maybe not accurate with the first load you tried. why are you spending money to fix your omega when tc will take care of it for the price of shipping to get it to them?? ???

In order to get an accurate rifle, you need to try an assortment of bullets, sabots, conicals, powders. Heck, i burned up 3lbs of powder in 2 months just on 2 rifles. But it was well worth it ;D

I tried over a dozen different loads, haven't given up on it. Took my Omega to my gun smith today.............................I'm use to it's excellent accuracy.

Was using 777 pellets and American Pioneer FFG. Used Powerbelts (which grouped best with 3 777 pellets, , 348 grain, around 5"), and 250 Shockwaves)  90 to 125 grains of AP FFG, 2 and 3 pellets of 777, and some other different rounds I have collected over the years.  5" was best I could get, not done yet. This was with open sights, which I have to use in Kansas BP deer season.......

damn, no wonder you were all over the place. Stop buying into that 150 grain mag charge BS. Even my rifle will spread them out with that kind of load. 100 grains is more than enough. APP from what ive seen,sucks and gives mixed results from day to day. My winchester loves either 80 grains pyrodex RS or 80 grains loose triple 7 " colorado doesnt allow pellets"  Come to think of it, every rifle i own does best with between 80 to 90 grains of powder. When i shoot powerbelts such as the 245 or 295s in my winchester, it turns into a pig and wants 120 grains loose pyrodex RS.  With a 348, which im using this year, its set up with 80 grains triple 7 and will shoot a constant 1" group @ 100. Also with open sights " colorado doesnt allow scopes"

i don't use the 150 grains. if you look you will see the powder comming out of the end of the barrel buring still. its not effective and makes a bigger mess to clean up. at most 100 grains. i am swiching ammo since i really don't like powerbelt. i don't remember what i used last season any more.but mine is a 45cal t/c encore. my results really won't compare to yours. try hornadays new sabot too it was grouping good in my traditions junk gun. 1 inch at 100 yards and 100 grains of pyrodex. i wish that gun wouldn't have been a hazard to shoot or i would be using it.

I'm with you guys on the high charges.I found 85 of T7 FF pushes a 295 Powerbelt out of my Knight DISC right where I want it.Go higher and you'll go anywhere.I can go to 90 but that buck last year said 85 was enough.

80 grains of 3f GOEX is very accurate and easier to clean up than 777.

I was trying loads that worked well in my Omega, usually got 1 1/2" to 2" groups with the heavier Powerbelts. Plus my scope I use in Oklahoma is calibrated for 3 777 pellets and the 250 grain Shockwave rounds which I used last year , dropped a 7 point buck in his tracks at 100+yards...........everyone has their favorite bullet and powder and every rifle is different.
