hey guys,any one have one,or even a custom job?what are your favorite loads,and what do you think of the cartridge?
Just bought one and mounted a 3x9x40 Elite with the ballistic reticule.Have some 185 gr and 210 gr Barnes Triple Shocks to try.

Hope it shoots good for you. I thought hard and long over building a 338-06 or a 35 Whelen. I picked the latter because of all the round nose bullets available in 35 and I planned on using it for deer and hogs at close to medium range.

My .338-06 is a great medium game rifle.  I've used mine for deer, moose, caribou and goat, mostly with the 210 Nosler.  For Texas deer the 200 Speer is hard to beat - downloaded to around 2500 fps.  Kind of a "super" .35 Remington.  Mine wears a Burris 3x9, a good choice - if a bit long.

The Weatherby is a darn good rifle...but you need to check for excessive free bore in it...I've seen a few that had as much as their other magnum rifles.....My A-Square is a custom Single shot...and I absolutely love it...

My load for deer is a 180 grain ballistic tip or Accubond and it's does a nice job on them...doesn't kick hard..Great cartridge...and easy to load for...

My .338-06 is a pre-64 M70 barrelled action that was chambered for the .30-06. The barrel was rebored to .338 caliber and then restocked in French walnut. A Leupold 2x-7x scope in Buehler rings and bases completes the package. It has an ebony tip, Fisher steel grip cap and is checkered in a wrap around fleur-de-lis pattern. I shoot 210 Nosler Partitions in W-W brass and 56 grs. IMR 4064 powder. It's a great elk rifle that has also taken one Shiras moose.

I used the 185 gr TSX in my 338-06 on my last elk. Here's the recovered bullet,



and here's the bull,



Though the bull just dropped at the shot, I was surprised to see the bullet in such shape (122 grs) given that the shot was at 280 yards. The 210 gr Partition has done a fine job for me in the past as well.

Nice bull,I hope to use my 338-06 on moose this fall we have 2 bull tags for northern Ontario .I have used the Barnes x for alot of years and have had great performance from them.So far a 185 gr triple shock just over 2920fps .It is shooting around 1 inch 3 shot groups.will try other powders soon.I'm happy with it so far.
