Anybody shooting Wisconsin Cartridge ammo?
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:01:12 AM »
Looks like some really decent prices, including shipping, if it'll shoot. 1" to 1 1/2" MOA would be acceptable.  I'm looking at the 30-30 150 gr. RNSP and both of their .357 Mag 158 gr. loads.
Anybody?

I just placed my 2nd order with them.  I ordered a box of the .357 Mag but haven't shot it yet.  I have no experience with their 30-30.  The .223 FMJ & .223 V-Max both were shooting about 1 1/2" to 2" at 100 yds from my NEF 22" bull barrel.  But that is about as good as I have gotten from the gun with any ammo without tweaking it yet.  The .204 Ruger V-Max was shooting about 1" after I did the "O" ring trick.  One thing that I did notice as has been previously mentioned, some of the cases might have some minor dents.  In my orders they were minor and only on the calibers that were bulk packaged.  .25-06, .45-70 were packaged in boxes with the shell holders.  I am sure that these aren't competition grade ammo, but they go bang (no misfires out of 1000+ rounds) and they hit were I am pointing.  Prairie dogs pop when hit by the V-Max (.223 or .204).

I live not to far from Friendship where the plant is, but have never been there. I have purchased components from them as they are at most gunshows in my AO.

Looks like I'll have to make a road trip and give you guys a report. I have not used their ammo as mine is all home rolled.

I'll let you know how the .357 rounds do.  Are you shooting the .357 in a pistol or a rifle?  I have a Ruger Blackhawk and a Marlin 1894, my NEF Handi .357 should be on it's way from NEF.

Carbineman; I'd like to hear about their facility.  I have always thought that it would be an interesting field trip to visit an ammo or firearm manufacturer.

I have a NEF .357 Mag that I just finished outfitting with a set of camo laminated english style stocks and a scope. I'm gonna add Williams fire sights after the first of the year. I'm thinking the 158 grain JSP ammo offered by WC might make a fine deer round for it.

Yea, me too. A report like that would be beneficial to a lot of folks here I'm sure.

Poncaguy, I'm really interested in the .223 V-Max stuff also. I have an NEF 24" bull that shoots the Winchester white box 45gr. into a very small group at 100 yds. But I've never shot anything else out of it and the WWB won't be replacable when I run out of what I have, as far as I know. Might have to try a small pack of the V-Max to see how they do.
I also have noticed that the shipping charges don't change that much by adding more to your order, seem to be about the same for 2lb. or 6 lb., haven't figured any more than that.

Shipping is very reasonable.  My last order was for about 1200 rounds of various different calibers (800 rds of .223)[there were a few of us that split the order].  Shipping from WI to IL only $14.82

I believe the 158 JSP is what I have.  I'll let you know how they shoot.  Have you thought about reaming out your .357mag to .357MAX?  That is my plan.  Never shot one, but I have read a lot of good reports here.

I actually already went the Maxi route once and wound up trading it off. Didn't even wring it out good for Mag shooting so I'm gonna hold this one in reserve and just shoot Mags for awhile. I am thinking about maybe having it done into 35 Rem later though. Nice big-bullet-slinging round in a rimmed case.  ;)

Was this with a Handi? 22" barrel or 24" bull barrel? 1:9 twist rate or 1:12?
