I have never trapped dry land, I have only water trapped. I Mainly trapped Mink,Raccoon,Muskrats and my self a few times. I just borrowed  9 1 1/2 Victor soft-jaw victors from a really good buddy of mine and I'm going to trap mainly farm Fields and maybe some woods by a creek. I was going to  base plate  all of the soft jaws and maybe put 4 coil kits on them. I don't know like anything about fox's and coyote's except that they are smart and have a good sense of smell.

I'm only using soft jaw traps to help get trapping permisson on new trapping land.

Bait?
lure?
location?
Traps set up ok?
ideas ?
Thanks

I ain't an expert, but I would shy away from 1-1/2 soft's for coyotes. As far as sets, learm to make a good dirthole and flat set with the traps well beded. I'm not good enough to explain how to make these sets, but I'm sure in a little while some folks smarter than me will be able to help you more. locations- same as most any other critter, look for edges, easy travel routes and food. I like field roads, crop edges. Good luck
Mike

If you're looking to trap both foxes and coyotes I would advise using 1.75's if you can get them. Those aren't to big for fox and not to small for coyotes. I know coyotes can be caught and held in 11/2's but your going to have some slip out. You can beef them up with a 4 coil trap but that will be too much for a fox. A standard 11/2 is the right trap size for fox. I might be wrong on this, but with using soft jaw traps, the animal could pull out a little easier. I'm sure someone else knows more about soft jaws than I do.
