« on: August 27, 2007, 04:14:21 AM »
Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the Encore 209x45 muzzle-loader??

Looking at buying one for whitetail hunting.

Thank you!

I have had one, it worked great on deer, my son used it on his first deer. I sold it to a buddy and he loves it.  I was using 2 triple7 pellets and the barnes 195 gr sabots and bullets.  I also used it on several deer all with one shot kills.

i had one it was great , son took it over ! mine liked the 40 cal over the 38 cal in a sabot ! which doesn't surprise me my 50 likes 45 cal over 44 cal in a sabot , i shot the hornady 160 xtp killed a 6 pointer then son borrowed it !
i heard some 45 cal ml shot poor , not mine !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Mine was in a G2, very accurate, took a nice boar with it. I'd recommend the .50cal. though. You could load .357 cal bullets in duplex sabots if you want light recoiling ".45cal" "performance"  etc... etc...  50cal bullet selection far surpasses the .45. The 50 will do anything the 45 will do plus a whole lot more. 50 cal is a little lighter to, due to the bigger hole in the barrel, makes for a well balanced and versatile set up.
You can't go wrong either way.

Were you comparing the same weight slugs? With the same weight slugs the edge should go with the .50 due to the larger bore volume.
