"Monarch" brand ammo
« on: September 07, 2007, 02:00:54 AM »
OK with factory ammo prices the way they are I'm always looking for some less expensive alternatives. Yesterday I was in Academy Sports and saw quite a bit of this "Monarch" ammo offered for several calibers. Anyone know about it? Possibly have shot some?

 Lik2Hunt
--- I have used the Monarch brand in .243 / .30/06 and 7mm Rem Mag. . They come in 20 round boxes and I will be happy to send you 17 rounds of .243 / .30/06 and 7mm Rem Mag. IMHO this ammo could be used to get a new rifle and scope "on paper" , but after that I will never use it again. I guess the old saying of you get what you pay for is true.

Comes in two flavors. One steel case made in Russia and another flavor in brass, made in Serbia I believe.   I shoot the brass 55gr softpoint in my 223 and it does fine.  I have not used it for hunting so I do not know how it performs as a  hunting bullet.

The Monarch .223 from Academy was the worst grouping ammo I have tried.

The Monarch with the nny head stamp is Prvi Partizan made in what used to be Yugoslavia now Serbia. It used to be imported as Hansen.
It also imported now as Privi Partisan and "Wolfe Gold". I shot a truck load of 6.5X55 when Hansen was the only game in town.
It shoots well in 3 Swedes and a M70 in that caliber.

AKA PPU

I hate to admit shooting shooting factory ammo but I had to get the brass some where and 300 rounds of Norma brass was a bit much for me.
