Lever Action Carbine Project
« on: June 29, 2003, 11:53:46 AM »
What lever action would be best suited to re-chambering in 32 H&R Magnum?  I am interested in have this carbine as a companion to some Ruger Single Sixes.  I like the idea of a pistol and carbine “matching”.  My wife has shown some interest in CAS so I wanted a LOW recoiling pistols and carbine.

I would prefer to use a Marlin but a Winchester would be great too.  What model would be closest, and require the least work to get to the .375 rim size.

Just a few years ago, Marlin made limited production runs of lever-action carbines in .25-20 and .32-20 calibers.

Those would probably be my first choice for that .32 Mag conversion you have in mind.

The problem is, the Marlins in those calibers have become collector's items, and will be sorta pricey.

Second choice would be an M1894 .357 Magnum carbine, with the required breechblock, extractor work, and of course re-barreling to .32 H&R Magnum

Thanks,

That is what I thought.   Anyone have any web pages or contact info for lever action gunsmiths?

Here is a link to several smiths...

http://www.leverguns.com/leverguns/leversmiths.htm

I can't tell you that anyone of these is any better than the others because I have no experience with any of them.  It gives you some place to start though.

Here is also a link to a Marlin for sale in 32-20.  Price isn't to bad!

http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976361597.htm

That should give you some idea of what you're getting into!

Good Luck

There are some lightnings running around in that caliber. El Rod (Eldon Penner) can rebarrel lighnings and boy does he do good work. He is the one involved right now with the italians on the repro. Nice guy.  :-)
He is from Nevada. Try a search fro Penner Lightning Rifles or Penner Gunsmith.
