Downside to extra barrel ????
« on: September 01, 2007, 05:14:46 PM »
Would there be any downside to having a muzzleloader barrel fitted to a ultra varmint .243?

I was wondering about residue/blow by getting into the receiver or any thing else that may cause a problem.

Shouldn't be a problem, the Huntsman and Sidekick have the same frame design, there are hundreds or thousands of those still around in perfect condition with happy owners. Might even be better since the firing pin hole is smaller. ;)

Blucollar,
i have the Huntsman ML and .243 combination rifle. i went to the range, shot 20 rounds of .243 and 10 Powerbelts with out cleaning the barrels, breech or reciever with out any problems whats so ever. the ML does dirty the reciever where the barrel breech rests but not enough to damage or hinder function. when i returned home, a descent cleaning was all that was needed. i dont see any long term problems like Tim said, threre are multitudes of these out there being used every season.
If your thinking of getting the ML barrel and getting it fitted to your ultra, go for it, its a real nice package to have at your disposal.

My son has a .50 Cal on his 45-70.  No problems whatsoever.

Aside from trying to not get more than one extra barrel?

You know that shipping and handling fee is the same no matter how many barrels you order, right?

The shipping/handling fee is $10 per order which will be for one frame regardless of the number of barrels ordered, but the $15 fitting fee is for each barrel ordered. ;)

Yes, that means an $87 blue barrel actually costs $102.

Now, you save $10 by ordering two, $20 by ordering 3... so the 11th barrel only costs $2! Great bargain, eh?

Just a note...

HUNTSMAN is a muzzle loader who's barrel can be fit to handi SB1/2 frame's.

SIDEKICK is considered a NON FIREARM. Its barrel will not fit a Handi SB1/2 frame. Its frame and barrel lug are made to different dimensions.

That's how you can buy a sidekick thru the mail with no paperwork.
